SLIP AND FALL

One of the most common forms of injury in Ontario is from slip and fall type accidents. People often fall in places like supermarkets, commercial buildings, on public sidewalks, or in a variety of other places due to objects, obstacles, water, ice, snow or other nuisances that should not have been on the ground.

A fall can be very serious, especially for seniors, and you should immediately investigate your right to potentially sue for damages from the person responsible for your injuries. According to the Limitations Act of Ontario you have 2 years from the date of an accident to begin a law suit against the party responsible.

If you've slipped and fallen on someone else's property due to the negligence of others you may be able to begin a law suit against that landowner or 'occupier' for damages. You will claim against the landowner or occupier in name, and if they are insured, their insurance policy will either defend the claim, or agree to provide you with an amount of money to compensate you for your injuries. If they are not insured they will have to compensate you themselves. Either way, by agreement or court judgment, you have a right to be compensated and made whole again after suffering losses due to a slip and fall type injury that was caused by the negligence of others.
