ATTENDANT CARE BENEFIT

A person who has been injured in an automobile accident can also claim an Attendant Care Benefit. This benefit is meant to compensate the injured person for services provided by an aide or attendant, or by a long term facility, or nursing home. If you are injured for example and confined to a wheelchair, you may obtain the services of a nurse or aide to assist you in your daily care activities, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, etc. This benefit provides up to $3000 per month payable to you, in order to compensate you for such attendant care expenses. The benefit is normally payable for up to 104 weeks after the accident. If you are deemed catastrophically impaired you may be entitled to as much as $6000 per month, and this may continue for life, or until $1,000,000 has been paid. The amount payable per month is determined by a document referred to as a 'Form 1' and which is completed by a qualified health care professional.
