If at the time of the accident you were living with a person in need of care, and you were the primary person providing care for that person, you may be entitled to cash benefit referred to as the 'Caregiver Benefit'. The person in need of care can be a child under the age of 16, an elderly person you were caring for, or a person under disability. If you are 'substantially unable' to engage in that care giving, you may be entitled to $250 per week for the first person in need of care, and $50 per week for each additional child or person in need of care, for the duration of your impairment. This benefit can be chosen instead of the income replacement benefit, or a non earner benefit. Your lawyer will help you choose the most valuable benefit for you.
