An insured person who sustains impairment as a result of a motor vehicle accident can claim income replacement benefits if they were employed at the time of the accident and if because of the accident they suffer a 'substantial inability' to perform the essential tasks of their employment. The benefit is also payable to persons who were not working at the time of the accident but who were employed for 26 of the 52 weeks before the accident.
The value of the income replacement benefit is up to 80% of net income to a maximum of $400 per week. If optional benefits are purchased with your insurance policy or by the insured person under whose policy you will be claiming, this benefit can pay up to $1000 per week.
The duration of the benefit is up to 104 weeks after the accident for persons who sustain a 'substantial inability' to perform the essential tasks of their employment. After the first 104 weeks post accident, the benefit is still payable if the injured person suffers a 'complete inability to engage in any employment for which he or she is reasonably suited by education, training or experience'. 7
