MEDICATION REHABILITATION BENEFIT

The insurer of the injured person must pay for all reasonable and necessary expenses incurred by or on behalf of the insured person as a result of the accident. These include expenses for all medical, surgical, dental, optometric, hospital, nursing, and ambulance services provided to an injured person.

They also include expenses incurred for chiropractic treatment, psychological treatment, occupational therapy and physiotherapy services, medication, prescription eyewear, dentures and other dental devices, hearing aids, wheelchairs, prosthetics, orthotics and other assistive devices. The accident benefits schedule also provides for rehabilitation benefits, including life skills training, family counselling, social rehabilitation, financial counselling, employment counselling, vocational assessments, and more.

The maximum value of medical and rehabilitation services that can be claimed is up to $100,000 for up to a period of 10 years. If an injured person is very seriously injured and meets the threshold set out in the law for being 'catastrophically impaired'6 then the maximum amount that can be claimed is up to $1,000,000 over a lifetime.
